Rudbeckia is a popular North American wildflower well known for its vibrant yellow that adds a splash of colour in open fields and gardens alike. Only 60 cm tall, this prolific flowering plant blooms in early summer and produces flowers until it goes dormant with the first autumn frost. Contrary to its common name, Black-Eyed Susan, this delicate variety is actually a Green-Eyed Susan, with bright golden yellow petals and light green eyes. Although the flower’s Latin name is a tribute to Professor Rudbeck, the Swedish scientist and botanist after whom Sweden’s first botanical garden was named, we still wonder who this Susan is. And we will probably never know.
