How To Make a Festive Fabric Rosette
Share
We love a bit of festive crafting here in the studio. We also love a rosette so decided to make a jumbo Christmas rosette for Petra to wear at our upcoming pop up shop!
These don't just have to be for Christmas, but would also make the perfect and most thoughtful birthday or celebratory keepsake.
What you will need:
Fabric or ribbon (big tip - ribbon will be easier!) - several metres and the wider the better.
Strong glue or small glue gun
Card for backing
Fabric or felt for centre circle
Badge pin
Patches!
Step 1:
If using fabric, cut the length you require (I needed a few metres for this jumbo rosette) and fold over flat so you have a nice neat edge. If using ribbon, simply cut a long length.
Step 2:
Decide on the size rosette you require and print out the circular template. We went for a jumbo rosette for maximum impact, but you can make any size. Using a template will keep your pleats nice and even and make sure the rosette keeps to a circular shape. Using the lines on the template, starting at the top, go round the circle creating pleats - the rule is fold backwards one line, then forwards two and then repeat again and again until you get back to the beginning (but you can also just do what you think looks nice, but be sure to keep to the circular shape). Glue in place as you go.
Step 3:
Once this is glued to the circular template, cut out a smaller circle using felt or any other fabric (felt is easy as will not fray).
Step 4:
Using our sparkly ric rac ribbon, glue neatly around the edge of the centre piece of felt for an extra bit of razzle dazzle and glue in place.
Step 5:
Use the rest of your ribbon to make the rosette tails and glue in place at the back of the rosette. Select your patches (this could be letters, rainbow numbers, big numbers or just a simple patch) and glue or press into position. Then finally glue a badge pin to the back and... ta da!!! A Quick and easy home made fabric rosette fit for any celebration!
