Homemade Valentines Ideas - DIY Guide

Looking for some Valentines Day inspiration? We've put together some easy ideas for this Valentines.

Love Heart Shortbread

One of the easiest biscuit recipes I reckon, adapted here to make swirly and marbled heart biscuits. The sweetest gift or self indulgent treat to fill a jar with this month.

Ingredients -
  • 125g/4oz unsalted butter, softened
  • 55g/2oz caster sugar, plus extra to finish
  • 180g/6oz plain flour
Combine all the ingredients as per recipe. Divide the dough in half and add red food gel colouring to one half. Roll out each ball of dough in a rectangle shape about 1cm thick and cut in half. Layer alternate pieces of dough on top of each other, for example: red/natural/red/natural. Roll into a tight roll (like a Swiss roll). Cut into slices about 2cm wide. Roll each slice flat about 1cm thick and cut out the heart with the cookie cutter. Keep the excess dough as this will be rolled together to make the marble pattern biscuits. Once you have cut out all the biscuits and used up all the dough pop them in the oven. Make sure you don’t over cook them!

Origami Hearts

Another one of my sweet shop stripey paper bag projects, this time it’s a little love heart token to share with friends or pop a little note inside for a loved one. if you don’t have your own paper bag supply here’s a link to the bags in our shop

A bit of a speedy video but I hope you can follow! Before you start folding you need to make sure the bag is a perfect square by trimming of the excess on the top of the bag.

Until 14th February we are popping an origami heart in all web orders.
